The Daily News cleaned up at this years New York State Associated Press Association competition scoring first place wins in eight different categories.
Ben Chapman and Sarah Ryley were awarded best depth reporting for Fight for their Future, a five-part series on the state of the citys schools.
Eric Barrow, now the News sports editor, won first prize in the feature writing category for his searing piece Doin Pain on the gang wars in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
Barrow, along with Thomas Tracy, was also awarded second place in the depth reporting category for Gangs of New York: A Special Report.
The News staff was awarded first prize in the spot news category for 2nd &d isnt Fixing this. Bill Bramhall and Rich OMalley won best full page design for their page, When Trump came for the Mexicans.
